NET REMOVALS

Removing discarded fishing nets

A discarded fishing net can cause an incredible amount of damage to coral reefs and marine life.

Through the local community we are notified if there is a ghost net at a dive site. We then organise teams to head to the site and carefully remove the net from the ocean.

Usually the nets are full of marine life which are in extreme danger and we spend a large amount of time removing them.

Ghost Nets Facts

* 640,000 tons of discarded fishing equipment is left in the ocean each year.
* Nets kill nearly a million animals per year.
* A single large net can cover an entire dive site and has the potential to destroy it entirely.
* Laws will require all nets to be tagged by 2025 to help reduce ghost nets.
