April 22, 2010 – Earth Day Dive Site Clean Up
Beach & Dive Site Clean Up

Earth Day around the world is a day to celebrate this beautiful planet and all it has to offer. It is also a time to recognize how fragile a home it is and  consider ways we can preserve it for the benefit of everyone’s future.

Crystal Dive and Eco Koh Tao joined forces for an Earth Day clean up in Ao Leuk Bay. 10 hardy divers went diving looking for trash and any other evidence of anthropogenic influences on Koh Tao that we may be able to change for the better.

One of our junior eco warriors, Kailash Cook helped contribute to the world wide database on the state of the world’s reefs by collecting coral health information using Project Aware’s Coral Health chart. This information is upload to www.coralwatch.org to better our understandings about the mechanisms of coral bleaching and the state of the world’s reefs.

We collected quite a lot of garbage but surprisingly not as much as on previous visits to Ao Leuk. Maybe that’s a sign that things are on the improve.

Thank you to everyone who helped.
