A pathway to success in desired development direction of koh tao

Over the last two months members of the local community have come together for a series of discussions on Koh Tao’s future

Last month Dr.Anond Sanitwong Na Ayudhaya from Chulalungkorn University in Bangkok began a study here of ‘Global warming...Challenge or Opportunity of Koh Tao development’ and started designing an adaptation plan with Koh Tao communities.

This month a workshop was conducted at the local temple complex with Dr Anond and members of his committee under the banner of “A Pathway to Success in the Desired Development Direction of Koh Tao”.  Four scenarios were compiled based on discussions from the previous month and these were put up for further discussion to determine which direction the community wanted to go and how we might best achieve those goals.

The sessions have been well attended by both Thai and Foreign members of the local community on Koh Tao and there is an overall consensus that we want to take development in a ‘green’ direction but to get there it is going to take a lot of hard work and some major changes from some external influences.

With the challenges ahead there was a positive air to the discussions and hopefully we will develop the wherewithal to bring some of our hopes and dreams to reality.

It has been  a great opportunity for Koh Tao to have these external advisors developing an action plan for the future of the island. Dr Anond and his team will be back in the coming months to present some strategies for achieving these goals based on the feedback received.
