June 8, 2009 - Monthly Clean Up A Big Success

Thank you to everyone who participated in this months clean up at various locations around Koh Tao.

Save Koh Tao has informed us that the May 31st Clean-up had about 85 people attending and we collected over 952 kgs of rubbish from Mae Haad, Sairee, Japanese Garden, and Mango Bay. Most notable was the removal of hazardous containers of Oil and Gas from the Dive Boat that sank a few weeks ago, enjoy the new wreck.

Eco Koh Tao focused primarily on Mango Bay to the north and can happily report there was not a great deal of garbage there to clean up. Mango Bay is lucky enough to be located away from Koh Tao's population centres (Mae Haad & Sairee) and prevailing southerly winds at this time of the year keep this north facing bay free from wind borne trash and debris.

It is still up to all of us to reduce the amount of rubbish we produce to ensure that our bays and beaches remain free from garbage the year round.
