May 24, 2010 – Beach & Dive Site Clean Up: Mae Haad

On yet another sunny afternoon Crystal Dive and Eco Koh Tao joined forces with the local community group, Save Koh Tao and 7 other dive schools to clean the waterways of the main town Mae Haad.

We took a twofold approach to the clean up this month starting at 10 am with a beach clean up. A change in the wind direction bringing a lot of debris up onto the beach of late and this is where we started our escapades.

We also had a team of divemaster trainees led by Master Instructor Carsten Neuhaus sifting the sand of many errant bean bag balls strewn around the bar.

The afternoon was time to hit the water with 20 people joining in the underwater clean up. Many nets, bits of wood, electronics and bottles were among the 632 kilograms of rubbish brought up by the divers including 5 kilograms of batteries alone!!

A great effort by all and thank you to everyone who participated.
